slick ext hard drive

Strengths: design, glow, esata, fast, 5yrs warrantie

Weakness: require fw upgrade to function properly

this unit's esata interface will not function properly unless the firmware is upgraded. regardless of what seagate tech says, this device with no firmware upgrade will not work even if it's attached to an esata card. after the fw upgrade, this ext drive is great. the drive is also warm, not hot, to touch. I really enjoy using this drive and it is now connecting to and working with onboard nForce...

Great Little Hard Drive

Strengths: Good backup storage, quiet, looks awesome

Weakness: none so far

I bought this drive yesterday and had it up and running within 5 minutes and 3 of those were opening the package and taking it out of the box. The other two minutes were clicking on a few menus and setting up my backup options. I find the autobackup software very easy to use. I now have an extra copy of my entire hard drive in case of hardware failure. It is also good to put shared documents,...

Amazingly fast, simple, and easy to use.

Strengths: Great value for money. ESATA gives very fast transfer speeds. Freeagent software for backing up your computer is preinstalled onto the drive. No drivers need. Preformatted to the NTFS file system.

Weakness: Box is misleading in the fact that it did not include the ESATA cable, only a USB connection cable. Plan on spending $10 to $15 for an ESATA cable.

This is a very great hard drive. The value for the money I spent could not have been any better. I wish the box would have been clearer though about what actually came inside. I was not very happy to have to buy an ESATA cable. The transfer rate for this drive using the ESATA is amazing. I also use it to grab files from my TIVO Series 3 which has an ESATA port. This drive is a great value and...

WOW I Thought

Strengths: The idea of esata on a single drive with a 5 year drive

Weakness: esata reads but no write

I was really hoping to be able to copy my movies over to this drive and put them on the network. The esata only reads and will not write. The usb 2 is what I refer to as painfully slow 15 MBs. When (if) on a esata 75MBs these are real world times. Time copy my 704 movies (461.26 GB) was about 8 hours. The Usb is slower than the apple tv over my network by 2MBs. Using but not happy!!!!!

Great Drive

Strengths: Very reliable. Good backup software. Slick design.

Weakness: Needs other options for positioning. Really only good for standing because of bottom stand.

Have had many Seagate drives and they are very reliable. Great price for great product. The design and light/glow are nice looking (although I liked the old silver and black with blue light better). The back-up software is nice and is useful for backing up many different drives to many different locations.

A great drive, good bang for the buck.

Strengths: Sound built quality. Cute design. Five year warranty.

Weakness: To be found.

This is a very good drive for the price. I purchased a maxtor 500GB initially but none of my computers could recognize it and the Maxtor CSR told me it was probably a bad box so had to return it back to Staples. This Seagate unit comes with 5-year warranty instead of 1 year for the Maxtor, an indicator of the confidence in product reliability.

Seagate 320GB external drive

Strengths: Connectors, (USB & eSATA), Fast. Quiet. 5-yr warranty

Weakness: none

This is a very nice 320GB drive with multiple connectors (eSATA & USB) on it and operates very quietly and stays cool to touch. it does not come with a eSATA bracket though. its backed by the famous Seagate 5-yr warranty and can be used anywhere thanks to its quiet operation. highly recommended.

very reliable external hd

Strengths: relatively fast, need a good esata card,

Weakness: can not configure in esata mode

I have used several externals before, but mostly with my internal hd and 3rd party enclosure. Seagate external speed is slightly faster on usb 2.0 and its esata is almost twice as fast as its usb speed. it's also reliable. i have it connected via sata for weeks and rebooting my pc without disconnecting doesn't cause any problem. unfortunately, the drive can only be configure via usb. almost a 5...

awkward external drive

Strengths: active cooling ext esata hd, seagate warranty

Weakness: not easily removable shell, shell removed void warranty, portable-unfriendly design, non working standby mode

this hard drive works very well and does what it suppose to do. while it's good for external use, you can not easily transport the unit. maybe seagate should have include a carrying case for this unique, but peculiar design. this somewhat defeat one major purpose of having an external harddrive. Now if seagate was smart enough to have a built in powersave mode that will keep the setting after the...

FreAgent Pro 320GB External Hard Drive

Strengths: USB/eSATA, Quiet, 5 years warrant

Weakness: Not Big Storage. Not include eSATA cable

I got it at the Clearance Price from Bestbuy and it’s very cheap. It is very easy to use. Good backup software. Runs quiet, and it has a touch power button, so you can turn it off when not using. It does not include the eSATA Cabe, and my computer doesn’t have eSATA now, it’s not a big issue for me. Furthermore, it has 5 years warrant.

THE GOOD: AutoBackup and FreeAgent Tools software are easy to use and highly configurable; drive offers good gigabyte-per-dollar value; smooth interface with Internet Drive and Shutterfly; eSATA connectivity offers fast transfer speeds; elegant design; generous warranty. THE BAD: Mac users cant take advantage of the bundled software; software installation is a bit slow; accessing your data...
